Salvator Doppel Bock

Katie is safely back from her quick trip to Salzburg and Munich, and I am ridiculously excited that she managed to find and bring me a Salvator Doppel Bock! For those of you priveleged to own a copy of the famed Bad Catholic's Guide to Wine, Whiskey, & Song, please turn to page 277 and read "Salvator Beer - Save Us from Lent!"

This one was first brewed in 1629 specifically for Lent. It is strong, hardy, and up to 8% alcohol - meant to compensate a bit for the fasting. It was so good that they had to send a barrel down to Rome to get special permission from the Pope to drink it during Lent. Ah, I am looking forward to this.

So how was it?

Oh, it was good. But strong. We made the mistake of drinking it with lunch. Even split between three people, Katie and I were not, shall we say, feeling entirely up for our next round of classes.

It was very creamy with a little touch of caramel on the lips, but a dry finish.

Sounds quite good. The strong-ness probably can be accounted for by the fact that it was brewed to offset the Lenten fast. You know, loaded with B-vitamins and all. Lisa, beer is good for nursing mothers...I'm just saying...you and Thomas would probably both get a great afternoon nap if you had even 1/3 to 1/2 a bottle every day at lunch. And you don't have to worry about classes...of course this would leave our sweet Maria under her own supervision...which could lead to more body art or who knows what!
